There’s something sacred about the pause.
That moment when someone is clearly triggered by your “no”—and instead of reacting—you choose to pause. You listen. You lean in. You press into something deeper.

That was me recently. And it turned into a powerful encounter with mental transformation and spiritual clarity.

Lately, I’ve been zoning in on how I think about prayer—not just as words sent heavenward, but as a strategy. As a tool. As a weapon. I’ve experienced firsthand the potency that emerges when you merge Scripture with prayer, when you intentionally dig into higher dimensions of mental and spiritual transformation.

Let me walk you through what happened.

“This is the way, walk in it.” — Isaiah 30:21

That scripture literally came alive for me this week.

An old boss from my IT days—my first boss, actually—reached out to me after 30 years. She and her husband were once my employers, and now, here we are… competitors. Isn’t that something?

The City of New York had issued a blanket contract with a requirement: large companies had to include smaller businesses (at least 30%) to retain the contract. And guess who she called to help fulfill that requirement?

Me.

She wanted to add me as a subcontractor. On paper, it didn’t sound bad. But my spirit wasn’t at ease.

You see, I’ve worked hard for years to become a prime contractor—the head, not the tail. I’ve had too many past experiences as a sub that left me unpaid, overlooked, and under-respected. So naturally, I approached this opportunity with caution.

Still, out of familiarity and history, I considered it. But then… the tone.

Her employee emailed, asking for my W9 and MWBE certification. No problem. But when I asked a simple question—“What does it mean to be included?”—the response from my former boss was curt:

“Angela, do you want to be included or not?”

Whew.

Now, I’m all for clarity, but this felt sharp. A bit aggressive. Especially for someone who’s asking me to be a beneficiary in their deal. I replied, respectfully expressing my past concerns with subcontracting. And then the tone got even more intense:

“Is it your credit? If not, I’ll move on with other resellers.”

And just like that, it became crystal clear.

When “No” Is Not Just A Word—It’s Alignment

In that moment, I chose peace. I chose self-worth. I chose no.

And guess what? I haven’t heard from her since.

But instead of being bothered, I found myself asking:
“God, what were you protecting me from?”
“Why did my no trigger her so deeply?”

I believe part of the answer lies in visibility and power. As a successful business owner, my inclusion as her sub would strengthen her standing with the City… while simultaneously reducing my chances of ever landing that contract as a prime. Because once you’re listed as someone’s sub, the government may not see the need to award you directly.

It hit me then. My “no” was my yes to something bigger.

The Voice That Changes Everything

That scripture in Isaiah? “Whether you turn to the left or the right, you will hear a voice behind you, saying: This is the way, walk in it.”

That voice? That was the Holy Spirit. It whispered loud and clear:
Angela, don’t take this path.
It looks good on the surface—but it’s not your way.

That’s the kind of clarity that only comes from the fusion of prayer and Scripture.
Not the emergency kind of prayer. Not the once-in-a-while kind.
But the deep, intentional, consistent kind. The kind that transforms how you think, how you discern, how you respond.

So Here’s My Invitation to You…

If you’ve ever found yourself struggling with a decision,
If you’ve ever questioned your “no” or felt unsure when others are triggered by your boundaries,
If you’ve ever wondered how to align your faith with your business decisions…

I want to invite you to take this deeper.

Let’s talk. One-on-one.

I’m opening up a few spots for personalized consultations where we can explore:

  • And most importantly, how to hear that still, small voice say,
“This is the way, walk in it.”
