I was so amused by a young woman recently, as she described to me, the main reason why she would not take a trip alone. ‘I don’t wanna get ‘snatched,’ she declared.

This word ‘snatched’ has gained popularity recently. Have you also noticed the uptick in the use of this word?

Folks are focused on snatching their ‘edges,’ their whole life and whole bunch of other things.

But I have yet to hear anyone say that they are fierce and fixated about snatching their identity back.

Have you?

Could it be that most of us are not aware that our identity has been hijacked? Um…snatched.

I have a theory about this.

Most of us are on the lookout for identity theft. We are terrified at the prospect of a hacker clearing out every dime from our bank account. Some of us can smell a scam from miles away.

Heck, my phone company warns me in advance when a caller is a possible scammer.

I love this T-mobile feature 😊

But very few of us have considered that our identity has already been snatched.

Why is that? Ponder that one.

But here is an example of how Eve’s identity had been snatched away from her.

Genesis chapter 3 captures the beginnings of her ‘snatch’ right here. It was so seemingly innocent, innocuous and even benign.

Seemingly…

“Now the serpent was craftier than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman,

“Did God really say, `You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,

3but God did say, `You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'” 4″You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman.

5″For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Did you catch that?

The snatcher, the thief, the hacker stole her identity. And she was a willing and an available participant!

This has got to be the finest hit job in all of history.

He got her to forget and doubt the value that was already hers. God had already made her like Him.

You want proof? I got some for you:

Just 2 chapters before in Genesis 1:26, here is the context and the exact words of our Creator:

The Sixth Day
25God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that crawls upon the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 26Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.” 27So God created man in His own image; in the image of God, He created him; male and female He created them.…”’

Did you capture that?

Eve was a victim of an identity crisis. She forgot who she was.  No, she was not God. But she was already created in His likeness.

She was hood-winked by the very words from God that was supposed to be her anchor.

She was made in His likeness.

And when the Deceiver stole her identity, by default she lost her security. Her confidence. Her Peace.

Wow!

So, you know what this tells me, we all need to engage in a deliberate and ongoing growth and development plan for our lives.

You need a coach. Someone to remind you of who and whose you are. Someone to help you stretch to your next level.

What have you lost lately?

Consider how your identity has been snatched from you.  Is it being snatched from you right now? Are you a willing participant? Do you even recognize the tactic that is being used on you?

You owe it to yourself to snatch your identity back from whomever and whatever. Your identity holds your promise, your possibility and your purpose.

And just like Eve, your actions or non-actions will affect generations after you. It is crucial.
