Today hit different.
I sat in church, quietly reflecting, when a word was dropped into my spirit that stopped me in my tracks: peace when powerless, and courage when you’re capable.
Whew. That was for me.
As I press deeper into this journey of mental transformation—unpacking layers of healing, self-awareness, and spiritual alignment—I realized something so profound yet so often overlooked. There’s power in both surrender and action. That’s what Jesus modeled so perfectly in the garden of Gethsemane.
Do you remember that moment? Jesus was in deep agony, praying until his sweat became like drops of blood. That’s not just a poetic line from Scripture—that’s a real medical condition, one triggered by extreme emotional stress. And yet, even in that place of brokenness, even while he prayed for hours repeating the same plea—“If it’s possible, let this cup pass from me”—he stayed.
He chose to stay.
Let that sink in. He could’ve walked away. He had the power. But He relinquished it… with intention.
I don’t know about you, but I know how I get when I have a little bit of power—I’m ready to use it the moment it serves me. Can you relate to that? It’s human. But Jesus, in his humanity, modeled something so divine. He laid down his power and leaned into love. For me. For you. For Angela.
That just makes me fall deeper in love with Him.
And when it was time to act—when it was time to move in the power He still had—He did it with courage. Healing the sick, raising the dead, feeding the hungry, standing up for women (yes!), defending the fatherless… Jesus leaned into his capacity with boldness. He didn’t flinch when it mattered.
This is the real heart of transformation. It’s not just about empowerment or motivation. It’s about wisdom. Knowing when to surrender, and knowing when to step up. Having the courage to change the things we can… and the peace to trust God with the rest.
This Women’s History Month, while I celebrate the fierce beauty of womanhood, I’m also celebrating the One who stayed in the fight for me. Who chose me. Who modeled how to hold peace and courage in the same hand.
And as I continue this journey—day in, day out, 365 days a year—I’m asking God to help me live like that. To surrender when I need to. To step up when I’m called to. And to keep healing, aspiring, and growing along the way.
If any of this resonated with you, I want to invite you to do the same. Don’t just scroll on and forget it—take a step.
