Have you ever confused your issues with your issue?

This distinction is critical.

I have read this Bible story in Mark 5 multiple times. And I just learned something new.

The woman in the text had an issue of blood for 12 years which produced many other issues.

Her issue had become her identity. The text did not bother to tell us her name.

Can you relate to this woman? Do people identify you by your issue?

I have been where she has been – my identity was Anxiety.

Her isolation and her loneliness are palpable. And when I dig a little deeper, I observe that not only was she socially ostracized because of her bleeding, and I also deduced that her own family may not have touched her for years because she was deemed unclean.

She was starving for physical connection.

And she had other issues too.

The scripture says she had spent all her money going to doctors. But they could not heal her.

So she was broke.

But you know what I admire most about this woman?

Not that she was brave and she was. Not that she was a risk-taker, and she was.

I admire most that she showed up for herself. She took a risk on herself. And since no one was there to encourage or speak to her, she spoke to herself.

She took action.

Sometimes, the best conversation we can have is the one that we have with ourselves.

Here is the reference from Mark Chapter 5

“A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better, she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.”

This woman knew that her main issue was that she had not come in contact with Jesus.

Do you know the lynchpin issue that would address all your other issues?
