...

Let’s be honest—some scriptures can sound a little… impossible. Like “Rejoice always.” Really, God? Rejoice when someone I love is suffering? When are the bills piling up? When the diagnosis I prayed against becomes real?

That verse used to make me pause too. But recently, I’ve been learning something deeper about joy—something that has shifted how I see the hardest moments of my life.

Joy isn’t about pretending everything’s fine. It’s not about denying pain or hardship. The scripture doesn’t say rejoice in the situation—it says rejoice in Him.

That right there is the difference. That’s the game changer.

When I choose joy in the Lord, I’m not celebrating the storm. I’m celebrating the One who calms it. I’m rejoicing in the God who stays steady when everything else shakes.

This revelation has been teaching me that joy isn’t a feeling—it’s a weapon. It’s something I can wield. When fear tries to creep in, I can reach for joy. When anxiety presses hard, I can fight back with joy. It’s not always easy, but it’s powerful. Because joy—true joy, the kind rooted in the Spirit—isn’t fragile. It’s fierce.

And that same Spirit equips us with everything we need for the journey: love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When I start pressing into those, my communication with God becomes clearer. My path becomes less chaotic.

You know how the highway of life can get—distractions everywhere, unexpected detours, people cutting in, things breaking down? That’s what it feels like when we try to navigate life without spiritual stability. God whispered to me one day, “Angela, choose joy so you don’t get lost in the noise.”

That hit home. Because stability—emotional, mental, and spiritual—is what we’re all craving. We want to be centered. Whole. Radiant. We want our lives to burst into color and purpose. And the secret? It starts with joy.

Even when it sounds ridiculous. Even when it feels impossible. Even when every reason to rejoice has been stripped away.

I’m learning, day by day, to choose joy anyway.
And I want to invite you to do the same.
