The Wound Doesn't Get the Final Word

By Angela Gibson · EveSpeaks.com · October 2026

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Psalm 147:3 (NIV)

Here's something petty but true: most of us have a doctorate in surviving pain and a kindergarten diploma in processing it. We know how to get through something — we are professionals at getting through things — but nobody ever taught us what to do with it once we're standing on the other side. So we keep it. We carry it into the next relationship, the next job, the next phone call with our mother, like luggage nobody asked us to pack.

Same Wound, Different Woman

Heal

Two women can walk through the exact same heartbreak, the exact same setback, the exact same betrayal — and one comes out bitter while the other comes out better. Same wound. Different outcome. The difference was never the pain itself. It was what each of them did with it. Pain you refuse to look at doesn't disappear — it just relocates, into your tone with your kids, your trust with your next partner, your silence in rooms where you used to speak up. Healing starts the moment you stop letting it work in the dark and start naming exactly what it is.

What the Wound Is Actually Worth

Aspire

Here's where most people get stuck: they treat pain as something to get over instead of something to get something from. But managed well — named, tended, brought into the light instead of buried — that same pain becomes material. It becomes the testimony, the discernment, the exact credibility you'll need for what's next. Ask it the right question before you ask it to leave: what did you come to teach me? Write the answer down while it's still fresh. That answer is the part nobody can take from you.

Tending Isn't a One-Time Event

Growth

A wound checked on daily closes. One ignored stays open, no matter how much time passes around it. Growth here isn't a dramatic breakthrough — it's the small, repeated habit of checking in with what hurt, instead of just hoping distance will finish the job for you. Journal it. Pray it out loud. Say it to someone safe. That's maintenance, not weakness, and it's the whole difference between a scar and an open wound.

So this week, before you label anything a setback that's too far gone to matter — ask what it was actually sent to build. Nothing about what happened to you has to be wasted. It just has to be handled.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
