There are two ways to handle being stuck. Method A: Panic, drink four espressos, scream at your laptop, and buy a domain name for a business you will never start. Method B: Realize that quicksand only pulls you down faster when you struggle.

The Problem: The Selfishness of Stuckdom Here is a hard truth wrapped in a warm hug: “Stuckdom” is often a result of staring at ourselves for too long. We obsess over our writer’s block, our revenue, our lack of inspiration. We become the center of our own frozen universe.

The Shift: The Law of the Bench Great teams have depth. The players on the bench are just as vital as the starters. Why? Because they offer perspective and support.

When you hit a wall, imagine you have just been benched. This isn’t a timeout. This is an opportunity to look at the game (your industry, your family, your art) from the sidelines.

  1. What is everyone else missing?
  2. Who looks tired and needs encouragement?
  3. How can you help the team win without touching the ball?

The Solution: Aggressive Gentleness You cannot hate yourself into a better version of yourself. You can’t scream a flower into blooming.

If you are in Stuckdom, apply the fruit of gentleness. Treat your creativity or your career like a friend who is recovering from the flu. You wouldn’t force them to run a marathon. You’d bring them soup.
