...

Don’t you just hate it when people tell you what you should do, but they never really tell you how? Or when they share the amazing results they’ve gotten, but when you ask for the process, they suddenly go quiet—almost like they’re guarding a secret recipe. I get it (I’m a business owner too, and if I gave away every detail, there’d be no reason to pay me). But still, I believe the Word of God was never meant to be gatekept. So today, I want to share something with you that’s been pressing on my heart.

This month, I’ve been focusing on the nine fruits of the Spirit, especially joy. And let me tell you, joy doesn’t just “happen.” It’s a choice. It’s intentional. It’s something I’ve had to decide to carry with me every day. Scripture reminds us over and over: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I say rejoice.” and “The joy of the Lord is my strength.”

But let’s be real. With everything going on in the world—chaos, uncertainty, heartbreak—sometimes joy feels like the hardest thing to hold onto. I don’t have all the answers, but recently I stumbled across something that shifted my perspective.

It’s in Ephesians 1. Paul says, “I keep asking that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know Him better.” That hit me. Because here’s the truth: my joy is deeply connected to my knowledge of Him. The more I press into His presence, the more I see His promises, His incomparable riches, His glory and majesty—the harder it becomes to stay discouraged.

Imagine truly grasping the incomparable riches of His glory. How could we not overflow with joy, even in the middle of trials? That’s the kind of joy Jesus had when He endured the cross—joy that was set before Him. And that’s the kind of joy I want to live in.

So how do we get there? We pray. We press. Just like Paul did. “I keep asking…” he said. That constant pressing in prayer opens our eyes, enlarges our appetite, and strengthens our capacity for joy.

And here’s the tip I promised—I’m not gatekeeping this one. Start in Ephesians 1. Pray those scriptures over your life. Ask God to open the eyes of your heart. Ask Him to give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation so you can know Him better. Because knowing Him better is the key to choosing joy.

So let me ask you: what are you going to do this week to step into joy?
