This morning, I was reading Exodus 33:15, where Moses said something that really struck me:
“If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know you are pleased with me and your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
And the Lord responded, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you, and I know you by name.”
That last part gave me chills—“I know you by name.” It’s one thing for us to know God’s name, but it’s something else entirely when He knows your name. The intimacy of that kind of relationship is what I long for. I want to walk in such closeness with God that I can feel His presence surrounding everything I do. Like Moses, I don’t want to go anywhere or do anything if God’s presence isn’t there—over it, in it, around it.
It took courage for Moses to say, “Thank you, but no thank you, Lord. If You’re not going with us, I don’t want it.” That’s a level of trust and intimacy that I strive for. Don’t you want that, too? To be able to say, “God, if You’re not in this, I don’t want it—no matter how good it looks on the outside.”
What I realized is that’s what we all truly want, deep down. Long-term, we crave something that lasts, something that has meaning and stands the test of time. Sometimes, we think we want certain things—success, money, recognition—but when we get them, we realize they’re not enough. But when we are in tune with God’s presence, whatever we get, we’ll truly cherish and enjoy because it comes with His blessing.
Recently, I had the chance to make more money, but I couldn’t sense God’s presence in it. I couldn’t feel that divine nudge, that spiritual aroma that says, “Yes, this is where you’re supposed to be.” So, I turned it down. I said, “Thank you, but no thanks.” Why? Because I’m learning to value God’s presence above all else.
How about you? Are you growing in your awareness of God’s presence? Are you brave enough to say, “God, if You’re not in it, I don’t want it”? Because that’s when life really matters—when we live guided by His presence.
I want to invite you to grow with us, to aspire to deeper levels of intimacy with God. We do this every day at EveSpeaks, and we’d love for you to join us on this journey. Click HERE, and let’s walk together in the presence of God.
